May is National Pet Month! Celebrate your pet with one of these four national pet month ideas!

Support Pet Adoption

If you do not have a pet to celebrate national pet month with, then it’s the perfect time to bring home a furry family member from your local shelter! Even if you can’t adopt a pet, there are still other ways to support pet adoption. Many shelters and rescue centers are in need of volunteers to help take care of the animals. If you do not have time to volunteer, ask your local shelter if you can donate animal food, toys, or other supplies to help care for the pets.

Promote Pet Ownership

The Human Animal Bond Research Initiative (HABRI) found that pets contribute to an overall healthier lifestyle. Pets can reduce stress, create opportunities for exercise and decrease blood pressure are among a few of the benefits. The HABRI also found that children who observe pets and animals learn the importance of responsibility and how to be nurturing. Share the benefits of owning a pet with others during national pet month!

Promote Pet Professionals

Our pet professionals are dedicated to providing quality care when taking care of our furry friends, so share your love for them! If you are taking your pet to the groomers or vet, be sure to post a picture online and tag the location. This shows your customer loyalty as well as strengthens your community support.

May is also an excellent time to visit your veterinarian! It’s recommended that your pet has yearly visits. This allows your vet to determine if your pet needs vaccinations, any dietary adjustments, any odd or unusual behavior and can run tests if needed.

Have Longer Play Time

This month is all about your pet so be sure to give them a little extra loving this month. Take your dog on an extra long hike or spend some time playing with your cat. The play time options are endless, and this will help make your pet feel loved. Playing with sheltered cats or dogs is another great way to spend time with pets this month. This will also help to socialize the shelter animals more quickly, making them more likely to find forever homes.

These are just four of the ways you can celebrate national pet month this May!
